How to Submit a Suspect Soybean Rust Sample
If you have a suspect soybean rust sample you may:
- Take a sample to your local County Extension Office where the agent can submit the sample using PDIS for diagnosis.
- Or, you can submit the soybean leaf sample directly to:
Kansas State University Plant Disease Diagnostic Lab
Department of Plant Pathology
4024 Throckmorton Hall
Manhattan, KS 66506-5502
If you are sending a sample directly it must meet the following requirements:
- Send up to 20 leaves with suspect symptoms.
- Leaves should be placed between two dry paper towels and lay flat.
- The sample should be packaged in 2 sealed, ziplock bags. The bags should be clearly labeled using a permanent marker providing us with the host, date, County where sample was collected, grower’s name, phone number, and field ID.
- The package should be mailed no later than Wednesday for the week so that it arrives in the lab fresh and before the weekend.
